What it is: The Nintendo Switch

Playing “Zelda” is no longer relegated to the family room TV. With the Nintendo Switch, you have the freedom to play games wherever you want, as it easily transforms from a home console to a portable system.

The Switch utilizes the Joy-Con for gameplay flexibility, which can be used as one controller or two, vertically or sideways, and as motion controls or buttons. Slide each piece of the Joy-Con into the Switch to make the console instantly portable, use a single Joy-Con in each hand or give one to a friend, and use a grip to combine both pieces together in the form of a traditional controller.

That said, the Joy-Con isn’t just a versatile controller. It employs HD Rumble to provide a sense of touch beyond vibration, and the IR Motion Camera detects the shape, distance and movement of objects in view, which elevates gameplay experience to a new level for players.

And did we mention that the Nintendo Switch allows you to play online with other Switch gamers and link up to eight systems so you can play against your friends anytime, anywhere? What’s more, the device has an entire store of games to purchase, as well as additional system options and accessories.

How much it costs: Starting at $299.99

The Switch system—which consists of the console, dock, and left and right Joy-Con controllers—retails at $299.99. Other versions available at a higher price point include the Super Mario Odyssey Edition ($379.99), and pieces such as controllers and docks can be individually purchased.

The Switch and its accessories are sold at Best Buy, GameStop, Target, Walmart, Toys R Us and Amazon, with Amazon Prime shipping available.

Who to buy it for: The gamer in your life

The Nintendo Switch has been a massive hit in the gaming industry since its release, and it makes a great present for gamers of all ages. When you’re shopping for stocking stuffers, why not pick up a game store gift card to make the lucky Switch recipient’s life complete?
