12 Days of Technology (1).png

The holidays are stressful enough without having to worry about finding the perfect gift for the ones you love. That’s why this holiday season, MyITpros is stepping in and doing all the shopping for you! Whether you’re technically savvy or not, we’ve picked out 12 awesome gadgets that are sure to make you the gift-giving hit of the season.

Check back each day to discover the next perfect present during our 12 days of technology!

What it is: The Nest Protect Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm

The Nest Protect is the alarm that thinks, speaks and alerts your phone. That means when you hear the scary sound of your smoke alarm going off, you’ll know immediately where the problem is as well as whether it’s just some burned popcorn versus something more serious.

What’s more, the Nest Protect talks to you in a human voice that will warn you before a burning piece of English muffin becomes a small fire. All units can think and identify, meaning the alarm in your bedroom can tell you if the toaster downstairs is smoking. The Nest also knows when to be quiet—rather than hearing that annoying chirping noise as the batteries die, you’ll get an alert to your phone instead. Alternatively, when you turn off your lights, look for a quick green glow on your device. That’s called the Nightly Promise, and its purpose is to let you know that your Nest Protect units have tested themselves and the batteries are good.

But what if nobody’s home when a problem arises? Phone alerts can be sent to everyone in the family, and you can create family accounts so everyone has the ability to hush and test alarms. Speaking of testing, that can be done automatically with a tap—and you’ll receive a full report afterwards.

The Nest Protect has a Split-Spectrum Sensor, tests itself automatically by checking batteries and sensors 400 times a day as well as speakers and horn sounds once a month, and can last up to 10 years. Plus, the ability to hush it straight from your smartphone without any extra hardware means no more balancing on chairs trying to the reach the button on your alarm unit! Nest also offers options of convenience—the Nest Protect lights up as you walk underneath it so you can easily navigate down a dark hallway, and its Steam Check feature allows you to enjoy a nice, steamy shower without being yelled at by your smoke alarm. Lastly, Nest products are designed to be fully integrated, so your Nest Protect can tell your Nest Thermostat to turn off the heat if there’s a carbon monoxide leak.
