This month, we are pleased to sit down and talk to the brains behind our recruiting and human resources efforts - Meredith Thomas!
How did you discover you wanted a career in HR?
"To be honest, it wasn't a deliberate effort! I started at MyITpros as an administrative assistant and knew I wanted to find a great growth path with this company. Back then, we had no dedicated HR personnel, and I saw a need for it. My dad works in HR so it made it kind of easy to get into it since I already had a good idea of what the role would be like. I am so glad got into HR because I've been able to make it my own and really feel like I own a developing part of the company."
What about HR are you most passionate about?
"I just like helping people! I like to be helpful in general, no matter the situation, so the fact people have to come to me for insurance and paperwork makes me feel needed. So what greater treat is there than to get to help people all day?"
Describe the most fulfilling project you've work on.
"Well, it's really every time I get to implement something new. One time in particular I implemented a new recruiting software company-wide because we didn’t have a a solid process. Things were getting lost and misplaced, communication was mixed up and it kept setting the recruiting process back. So I did all research and found, tested and implemented the product. It has streamlined recruiting, keeps management really involved and provides a lot of transparency into what recruiting efforts are happening."
What is the most important thing you've learned after 4 years at MyITpros?
"Working here has really taught me how to be a much more independent employee. I am able to own a lot of my own initiatives and really run with them, so it requires me to be confident and forceful in my decisions. I've really seen that aspect of myself develop over the last few years."
What are your goals for your 5th year?
"I really want to continue focusing on developing my role. Hopefully the company will continue to grow, and with that comes new benefits, perk developments, etc. and I am really excited to be able to participate in and shape that vision."
