This month, we are pleased to sit down and talk to our very first procurement coordinator - Megan Perry!
You were just promoted. Congrats! Describe your day to day responsibilities as our first Procurement Coordinator.
"I handle all the equipment purchasing for our client base- I do the research, I compile the quotes, send them out and make sure that everybody pays what they are supposed to pay and that it works in budget. I order everything and then track all the orders to ensure they get to the right place at the right time and that our service team is aware when things come in so they can do their magic."
How did you work your way into in this position?
"I started out with MyITpros- my first big girl job!- as an admin assistant. Procurement was a small part of the role but in 2015 we took on a lot more clients with a much higher ordering demands. As we grew I realized it was more important to have someone specifically focus on this and that it was becoming a full on task that needed a dedicated role."
So you essentially spearheaded this new position?
"Yes! We were having huge months of hardware sales and it just got too much to juggle with administrative responsibilities. We knew as a business we could get even more sophisticated for our clients and saw an opportunity to really grow that- especially because we are offering a service that a lot of our peers or competitors aren’t. Before MyITpros I worked in restaurants and had no idea what I wanted to do but when I got here I just saw this and knew that it fit. I am a control freak- and this is something where I have total control. Perfect!"
Describe a fulfilling project you've worked on.
"The old process for the service team requesting quotes was just to send email or leave chats or notes. I ended up creating a form and distributing it to staff to get full blown requests. It has made a lot more sense in order to teach people what information I need and really helps me stay organized. It made me so happy that people use it and really embraced it."
What's the most important thing you've learned working at MyITpros?
"I’ve learned that it’s okay to make mistakes and learn from them. It helps you grow as a person. That’s for both professional and personal lives- it’s okay to fall off the wagon for a minute and get back up and get on again. It’s better to proactively do something, make a mistake and learn than to be too afraid to do anything at all."
Where do you want to be in 5 years?
No idea- but I am totally chill with that!
